Beauty Breaks: Session 1 | August 27, 2016
Facilitators: Sojourner Zenobia Wright, Courtney Cobbs & Keon Dillon

On Saturday August 27, 2017, F4F hosted Beauty Breaks' first workshop.  Sojourner Zenobia Wright opened the space with her calm energy and workshop, Home Is Here; a reminder that home is within ourselves.  This grounding meditation was followed by meditative exercises that focused on the heart and the importance of love and loving. Sojourner prompted us to ask and answer How do YOU love in a time of chaos? After participants grounded themselves through a meditative experience and intimate conversation they were prepared for pleasure as Courtney Cobbs began her workshop, Reclaiming Pleasure as a Liberating & Healing Practice.  Self made pleasure becomes power in a world where Black beauty is commodified and saturated through white surveillance. Participants free themselves through taste and touch as Cobbs reminds them to separate guilt from pleasure.  Keon Dillon traced the history of the construction of Beauty as something based in whiteness and the commodification of Black beauty in the 70's and now in the way in which the internet and social media often times commodifies the experiences Black joy, rethinking #blackjoy media movements of right now.

Looking forward to more as we reconvene at F4F this Saturday September 3rd (doors open at 2pm)
